A top Somali army official says Kenyan air-force jets have carried out an airborne attack against Al shabaab stronghold in the country’s south-western Gedo region on Saturday. Col Mohamed Hassan, a senior military commander in Gedo region said the Kenyan warplanes pounded Rays-Qode, targeting a key Al shabaab base near the strategic town of Garbaharey town.Mr Hassan said several Al shabaab combatants were killed in the KDF airstrike, which was the latest in series of retaliatory bombing on Al shabaab bases in southern Somalia since El Adde attack in January 15.
At least two civilians were wounded in Kenyan airstrike on Rays-Qode area, according to the Somali army commander. Al shabaab and Kenya did not comment on the attack so far.
The Al-Shabaab has launched several deadly attacks against KDF and AMISOM military installations, including Leego, Janale and El Adde attack in southern Somalia within the last several months.
