| [Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 33 anti-government armed gunnies were killed after attacking the Afghan army posts in southern Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said. A statement by MoD said at least 14 gunnies were killed and 17 others were maimed after attacking the army posts in Kajaki district on Sunday. The statement further added that 19 gunnies were killed and 5 others were maimed in a separate attack on army posts in the vicinity of Lashkargah city during the same period. MoD said the festivities did not incur any casualties to the local residents and Afghan army personnel. The anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups, including the Taliban holy warriors group have not commented regarding the reports so far. Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed gunnies are actively operating adn frequently carry out insurgency activities. The growing violence forced the Afghan armed forces to retreat from several posts during the recent weeks, a move the Afghan defense officials said was aimed at preventing further casualties and bolster security of key central bases. |
