Kanye West To White People: '€˜Please Don't Comment On Black Music' |
2016-02-16 |
![]() In a series of tweets Monday night, the 38-year-old rapper said white people don't understand what it's like to have slaves as ancestors. "To Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, New York Times and any other white publication," West wrote on Twitter. "Please do not comment on black music anymore." His recent financial difficulties may not be his only problem. Could it be that Mr. West needs to seek some professional medical help ? |

#19 First, hip-hoppers riffed off Apache, Then tunes got all digi and scratchy. Now 'Merica's duty Is shakin' her booty, But music is more than what's catchy. |

#18 Please don't use technology invented by Europeans or Asians to make or distribute your music. And while you're at it, stop using English and start using West African dialects in your raps. Cultural appropriation! |

#14 Who? Isn't he some no-talent black guy who's famous because he's married to/shacked up with some no-talent white woman? At least he said "please." /sarc Kenny, I don't comment on that trash you convince gullible people is music, because I don't listen to it. I'd rather keep my hearing, my money, and my sanity. |

#13 Thanks for the reminder- just went on youtube and cued up Frank Stokes, Memphis blues from the 20's. Wonderful stuff. |

#12 OK, I will comment. Duke, Count, Louie, Robinson, Charles and Cole were all great musicians. If you really wanna get out there so was Jimi Hendrix. So were Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick just so I don't get accused of being sexist. There has been a great deal of music composed and performed by black musicians. West just doesn't happen to be one of them. I admit I don't go out of my way to listen to him but recently at a convenience store they had him on the radio. Repetitive and annoying are the adjectives that come to mind. I hope I'm not just an old fogey I fear it's an indication of a society in decline. |

#10 I won't comment on your music as long as you don't take white people's money. |

#9 Total blackout of black music in the music press may not help sales much. Yeah Pandora will tell you about similar songs but they have a narrow range of stuff. |

#8 Don't comment on Charles or Cole or Robinson music, but blast Wests crap all you want because, unlike the others, his black noise is not music. |

#7 Slaves as ancestors? This guy lives in a mansion in overwhelmingly white Calabasas with Kim Kardashian. Gimme a frickin' break. Then compare his music with that of Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson or Nat King Cole. |

#6 Just because rap is the only English word pronounced with a silent 'C' is no reason to get testy, KW. |

#4 Panic in the community having become the 2d minority after Hispanics and sensing the erosion of all that power and privilege garnered in the last four decades? Power in segregation, even self segregation, rather than integrating like the Asians. |

#2 Every group of people, anywhere in the world, almost certainly have ancestors who were enslaved. The difference is, most of us have moved off the plantation and embraced being free, adult men. |
