[NRTTV] ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... remains strongly opposed to the participation of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the main Syrian Kurdish group, as well as the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), a militia affiliated to the PYD, from negotiating on the opposition side at peace talks planned for this week, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Tuesday (Jan. 26). Turkey will boycott Syrian peace talks planned for this week if the Kurdish opposition PYD is invited to the negotiating table, the country's Foreign Minister. "Representation of (Syrian) Kurds in talks is a necessity. Negotiations without Kurds at table can't be inclusive. We are not against the presence of Kurds at talks. But are vehemently against the participation of the PYD and YPG (Kurdish People's Protection Units) who oppress the Kurds," Davutoglu said in Parliament. "It is unacceptable to let a terrorist organization joining opposition parties and attend negotiation talks. They cannot sit together with honorable opposition groups fighting against the regime. If somebody wants to see the PYD at the table, its place should be on the same side as the Syrian regime. The PYD, which cooperates with the regime, can't represent the rightful struggle of Syrian people," Davutoglu said. Turkey is also against the participation of the YPG militia which is affiliated to the PYD. The YPG has become an important partner in the U.S.-led fight against Islamic State. Turkey views the YPG as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which it considers a terrorist organization. |
