Gunmen attack Indian air force base near Pakistan border
2016-01-02
[DAWN] A group of four to five gunnies attacked an Indian air force base near the border with Pakistain early Saturday, a top police official said, with fighting ongoing.
Ah, yes. Modi makes kissy-face with Nawaz on Christmas day, Indian military base attacked on New Year's. Just like clockwork.
"The base came under attack from four to five murderous Moslems at around 3.30am. The gunfire is still going on," Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, director general of police in Pathankot district in Punjab

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

state told AFP.

"Two of the attackers are believed to be dead in the shootout while the rest are holding out inside one of the buildings in the base," he said.

He added that there had been no damage to fighter planes at the base and that security forces were still trying to identify the attackers.

Pathankot is on the highway that connects India's insurgency wracked Jammu and Kashmire state with the rest of the country. It's also very close to India's border with Pakistain.
The Times of Israel adds:
A top security official, who asked not to be named, told AFP that the gunnies were believed to be from the Jaish-e-Mohammed Islamist group, describing them as suicide kaboomers who breached security at the base in the northern state of Punjab while wearing army uniforms.

Authorities had put the state on high alert on Friday after five gunnies in army fatigues hijacked a car driven by a police brass hat, which was later found abandoned on the Pathankot-Jammu highway, an important road link connecting the restive neighbouring region of Kashmire with India's plains.

It was not yet clear if there was any link with Saturday's attack.

#1  Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM)—also known as the Army of Mohammed, Khudamul Islam, and Tehrik ul-Furqaan among other names—is an extremist group based in Pakistan. It was founded by Masood Azhar in early 2000 upon his release from prison in India. The group’s aim is to unite Kashmir with Pakistan and to expel foreign troops from Afghanistan. JEM has openly declared war against the United States.

JEM continues to operate openly in parts of Pakistan despite the 2002 ban on its activities. Since JEM founder Masood Azhar’s release in 2000, JEM has conducted many lethal terrorist attacks, including a suicide bombing of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly building in the Indian-administered Kashmir capital of Srinagar in October 2001 that killed more than 30.

JEM has at least several hundred armed supporters located in Pakistan, India’s southern Kashmir and Doda regions, and in the Kashmir Valley. Supporters are mostly Pakistanis and Kashmiris, but also include Afghans and Arab veterans of the Afghan war against the Soviets. The group uses light and heavy machine guns, assault rifles, mortars, improvised explosive devices, and rocket-propelled grenades in its attacks. The US State Department designated JEM a Foreign Terrorist Organization in 2001.
