Global social media campaign 'I Am A Migrant' launched |
2015-12-17 |
The site iamamigrant.org brings together profiles of migrants including their country of origin and the distance from the place where they now live. An Arabic interpreter of Iraqi origin living in Belgium, an artist from Mauritania living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Widespread support "Myths and fears surrounding migrants are informing popular discourse," said Saira Grant, chief executive of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI), the non-governmental group co-organising the initiative with the Geneva-based IOM. Geneva-based IOM? Wat bloody hypocracy. Banking accounts welcome, migrants not so much. The campaign is being launched ahead of UN International Migrants Day on Friday and has already been adopted by the government in Mexico, where "Soy Migrante" posters will go on display next month. #8 financial benefits to whom? 1. To the migrant. 2. To the parent country, where the migrant sends remittances 3. The erstwhile employers of said migrants. There's probably a half-dozen other beneficiaries, but suffice it to the taxpayer generally isn't one of them. |

#7 Sure, "migrants" have rights. Back in the country that spawned them. Did anyone ask Mexico if their participation in this campaign includes accepting "migrants" or just producing them? |

#3 A migrant is merely someone who moves between places for the financial benefits without loyalty. Precisely. |

#2 Why migrant, instead of immigrant? Both of my parents were immigrants, and worked hard to be good American citizens. A migrant is merely someone who moves between places for the financial benefits without loyalty. |
