| Greece Moves Migrants From Flashpoint Border |

| [Tolo News] Greece transported busloads of immigrants away from the flashpoint Greece-Macedonian border Saturday in an effort to keep violence from erupting between Syrian, Iraqi and Afghan refugees permitted to move into Macedonia. Immigrants who refused to be bussed out said that they were stranded, had nowhere to go and would stand their ground to the bitter end. For refugees and immigrants on the Greek border with Macedonia, a tremendous amount of time was spent on "waiting." They waited to see if, maybe, even though they can't get into Macedonia because they are Bangladeshi or Iranian and not from Afghanistan, Syria or Iraq, the policy may change. Days earlier asylum-seeking immigrants protested what they said was an unfair bias. "We have just two options: we go inside or die here. If we die here it is response to UN and UN nations - Europe nation. Why, we are not human?" said Waeed, a refugee from Pakistain. Wanting to avoid a repeat protest, Greek authorities moved around five hundred "non-refugees" to Athens on Saturday. NGO representatives said that a sweep to clear out thousands remaining may be imminent. In response, some asylum seekers said that they will resist. |
