French MPs vote to allow government to block websites, social media under state of emergency |

[AlAhram] French politicians on Thursday voted to allow the overnment to block websites and social media accounts promoting or inciting terrorist acts, under a state of emergency. Prime Minister Manuel Valls praised the "wisdom" of politicians who agreed the measure after voting to extend a state of emergency to three months. |

#4 Might depend on where the lamp post is and for whom the rope is intended. Rantburg seems rightly very conscientious about that sort of thing. But I still think if the offending accounts, web sites, tweets or whatever come from a foreign country our government would be within its sovereign rights to block said tweet or, in the case of countries like Syria, to block the whole frickin' country. And if they come from this country the FBI might wanna look into it. And as long as you've got me started I'd block all of China just because they're such prolific hackers. |

#3 I'm no constitutional scholar but I don't believe freedom of speech includes incitement to violence. Can I quote you the next time somebody here mentions "rope and lamposts," or "gallows," or "break out the guns and ammo?" |
