| Talibunnies gun down cleric in Ghazni-province |

| A prominent religious scholar was assassinated by the anti-government armed militants in the restive southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan. According to the local government officials, the incident took place in the provincial capital of Ghazni province on Friday morning after a magnetic bomb went off in the vehicle of Maulavi Jilani Urfani. Deputy provincial police chief Asadullah Shujae confirmed the incident and said the blast happened in Shamir area of Ghazni city. No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident. Ghazni is among the volatile provinces in southeastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in its various districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities. Maulavi Urfani was among the prominent religious scholars of the country who was actively taking part in religious activities in Ghazni province through his moderate teachings of Islam. His major activities in Ghazni province includes establishment of a formal religious school and a radio station which was mainly covering religious topics regarding Islam. |
