[RIA Novosti] Three suspected militants were killed in a shootout by security forces in Dagestan, a local law enforcement source said on Wednesday. The late-night incident took place in a rural area some 30 miles southwest of the capital of the republic, Makhachkala. Special forces regularly patrol the Buynaksky district, where the shootout took place.The source said, "Law enforcement officers stopped a VAZ 2107 car for document inspection. Persons occupying it opened fire on security forces and were eliminated in retaliatory fire."
He added that law enforcement officials were unable to establish the identities of the shooters because their vehicle caught on fire.
