| Mentally disturbed Djiboutian soldier opens fire on colleagues |

| Reports reaching us from Beledweyne city in central Somalia indicate that a Mentally disturbed Djiboutian soldier has opened fire on his colleagues, killing two and wounding 3 others. The shooting took place at Lama-galay military base in Beledweyne, according to Somali army commanders who spoke to Radio Shabelle on the phone from the city after the incident. Two Djiboutian soldiers serving under African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) were killed while three others were injured, including one in a critical condition, said the army officers. The perpetrator, who had a history of psychiatric issues, was immediately arrested by his Djiboutian colleagues in the Lama-galay military outpost. This is the first shooting by an AU peacekeeper turning his gun on his colleagues in Somalia since their arrival in 2007. |
