Gunmen opened fire on a pickup in Yala province on Saturday night, killing an intelligence officer and his friend.Police spokesman Wanchai Jindawan said yesterday the incident occurred in Raman district. He said Sergeant Muhammad Sila and his friend were heading to Tambon Riang when they were attacked and killed by men armed with military-grade weapons.
Officials believe the attack was related to the ongoing insurgency in the far South because Muhammad worked for an intelligence unit.
