PAK Chief of Army Staff: Afghan Taliban likely to join IS if reconciliation fails |
2015-10-04 |
![]() According to a report published by Pakistan's The Express Tribune news agency, General Raheel Sharif emphasized on the reconciliation in Afghanistan during his address to The Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies in London. The army chief emphasised the reconciliation between Afghan Taliban and the Afghan government. He expressed his fear the Taliban could seek an alliance with IS unless they were brought back to the negotiating table, the report states. "This reconciliation in Afghanistan is very important. If we do not do it in the proper manner and the Afghan Taliban splinter, they would go for a bigger name and that is IS," General Raheel quoted by the news agency as saying. General Sharif acknowledges that Daesh is a more dangerous than al-Qaeda but has told the participants that it would not be allowed in Pakistan. "As far as IS is concerned, in Pakistan, even a shadow of IS would not be allowed." |
