| Baghlan Residents Take Up Arms To Fight If Needed |

| [Tolo News] Hundreds of residents in northern Baghlan have taken up arms in support of security forces and are ready to fight the Taliban if the need arises. According to them, they have armed themselves in the wake of the Kunduz crisis and are bent on preventing the same thing from happening in their capital Pul-e-Khumri. Locals -- across the board -- including students through to professors are standing together and ready to fight. "All the people of Baghlan including women and youngsters are concerned about the situation in Kunduz and that they have picked up arms to defend their defenseless citizens," said Aziz-ul-Rahman Sakhizada, a Pul-e-Khumri university professor "We are dropping our pens now and picking up arms to defend our national prestige and dignity," a local student said. Acting governor of Baghlan Sultan Mohammad Ebadi applauded the support of the people and said the local forces are fully prepared to defend Pul-e-Khumri. "We are seeing all of these people are young including students and teachers and they are committed to standing alongside the security forces," he added. Baghlan, a neighboring province, has prepared itself for a possible onslaught in the wake of the fall of Kunduz earlier this week. But Pul-e-Khumri residents vow not to let the same happen and have instead come out in support of the security forces. |
