The US airman who stopped the French train gunman will receive the purple heart
2015-09-15
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. airman who helped disarm a gunman on a Paris-bound train last month will receive a Purple Heart medal, the U.S. Air Force leader said on Monday, in an unusual award of the honor to a serviceman wounded while not in a combat zone.
I think we're going to see shortly that all Europe is a combat zone...
Spencer Stone, 23, will receive the medal, which is given to troops wounded or killed in action against a U.S. enemy, U.S. Air Force Secretary Deborah James said in remarks at the Air Force Association Conference.

#4  ...I'm hearing that if the French Government hadn't pinned the Legion d'Honeur on that lad so fast, DOD wouldn't have let him get ANYTHING.

#3  Is the USAF trying to pump up their Purple Heart numbers?

The pessimist in me says that the USAF wants to bath in reflected glory. But the optimist in me says that the USAF is justifiably proud of what those young men did. The pessimist is right 9 out of 10 times. It is that 1 out of 10 that drives the pessimists to distraction and keeps me hoping.

#1  So, how about the ones shot at Ft Hood?
(I know, stupid question. Although, if the Ft Hood shootings are workplace violence, could you sue the Govt over a really hostile workplace?)
