Tobruk oil slick kills birds and fish |
2015-09-01 |
![]() The municipality's front man Saleh Fouad said officials had been alerted to the slick by local fisherman. He gave no size for the pollution but said that samples had been taken both from the sea and a tanker nearby. An investigative committee had been formed. There are currently two tankers at Tobruk but it is unclear if either is under suspicion. Classically oil slicks occur when tankers pump out their ballast and bilges but international regulations demand that this polluted water is put into slop tanks and discharged into other tanks ashore. |
