[Dhaka Tribune] Rapid Action Battalion![]() RAB-7 Chandgaon Camp Company Commander Major Mohammad Jahangir Alam, in a presser at the camp office at around 5:30pm, said they nabbed betel nut trader Omar Faruk, 35, of Char Patharghata union at Potiya upazila in Chittagong, from his factory at around 2pm following a tip-off. "We found 270kg of sulfur kept in six sacks in Faruk's rented home in the area, though he could not show us any documents about his possession of the sulfur," he said. The major said sulfur is one of the ingredients in making crude bombs, and some other types of bombs. The elite force is investigating why the trader kept such a large quantity of the sulfur. "With this seized sulfur, a remarkable number of bombs can be produced," he added. RAB-7 personnel also found the involvement of two others -- Habibur Rahman, 30, and Bappi, 30 -- in connection with the possession of the sulfur, but they are on the run, the major said, adding that RAB is also investigating whether the sulfur was brought there for any sabotage or holy warrior activities. Faruk was at the RAB-7 Chandgaon camp at the time this report was dispatched. The arrestee will be handed over to Karnaphuli Police Station while a case has been lodged with the cop shoppe in this connection, added the Major. Local betel nut traders use sulfur for betel nut processing in factories, and are required to collect a license for that. |
