The Sherlocks said that each of the teams had seven members, all trained as "one-man army." The Chittagong-based outfit was styled as Syria-based international bully boy outfit Mujahideen with an aim to toppling the Awami League-led government through an armed revolution.

"They had plans to conduct massive subversive activities across the country as part of their armed revolution," Rapid Action Battalion (RAB 7) Commanding Officer Lt Col Mifta Uddin said.

To implement their operations, Hamza Brigade received money from the three lawyers held on Tuesday in the capital, and another Dubai citizen named Allama Libdi. RAB suspects that its chief have fled to Malaysia. The outfit's five accounts were managed by its leader Moniruzzaman Masud alias Don, a former Shibir activist.

Supreme Court lawyer barrister Shakila Farzana's name came in Don's confessional statement, RAB sources said. Names of the two other arrestees were found in confessional statements given by 27 other members of the group, who were tossed in the clink

since February.

Shakila is the joint general secretary of pro-BNP lawyers' body Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum. She is the daughter of Syed Wahidul Alam, a former BNP politician from Chittagong. Shakila and two of her associates were later put on remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The case was filed after RAB personnel busted a training camp of the outfit in a remote area of Chittagong's Banshkhali on February 21. Two days back, RAB conducted drive at Hamza Brigade's theoretical training centre "Al Madrasatul Abu Bakar" in Hathazari of Chittagong where the members had been given training using audio-visual materials in the guise of an Arabic language coaching centre. The madrasa-like coaching centre was run by Mohammad Fattah -- who is currently on the run.

RAB claims that Shakila deposited Tk25 lakh and Tk27 lakh for the outfit in two phases while Md Hasanuzzaman Liton deposited Tk31 lakh and Mahfuz Chowdhury Bapon Tk25 lakh. They found that Hamza Brigade's bank accounts had a total of Tk1,38,70,000.

"We are interrogating the lawyers about the source of money, their motive behind the funding and the other members of the outfit," Mifta said yesterday.

He said that most of the 29 Hamza Brigade detained since February were activists of Shibir, Qawmi madrasa-based platform Hefajat-e-Islam and other local bully boy organizations.
