ISIS Beheads Elderly Archeologist In Palmyra, Syrian Official Says

[World Post] DAMASCUS, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Islamic State (IS) militants beheaded an antiquities scholar in the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra and hung his body on a column in a main square of the historic site, Syria's antiquities chief said on Tuesday.

IS, whose insurgents control swathes of Syria and Iraq, captured Palmyra in central Syria from government forces in May, but are not known to have damaged its monumental Roman-era ruins despite their reputation for destroying artifacts they view as idolatrous under their puritanical interpretation of Islam.

Syrian state antiquities chief Maamoun Abdulkarim said the family of Khaled Asaad had informed him that the 82-year-old scholar who worked for over 50 years as head of antiquities in Palmyra was executed by Islamic State on Tuesday.

Update from the Daily Mail at 11:30 a.m. ET:

Depraved militants fighting for the Islamic State in Syria have brutally murdered an 82-year-old retired archaeologist because he refused to tell them where gold and ancient statues were hidden.

Last I heard the Tranzis weren't blowing up prisoners on land mines or burning them in cages.
They used to line them up in front of a ditch and shoot them in the back of the head, but that's been a few decades. I'm not sure about the raping and enslaving, though.

Give the Islamic State 70 years - they might catch up with the Russians, or at least reach the Russian's industrial-scale level of atrocity.

I'm sorry for the confusion, JohnQC. I meant Unomotle Sniger2065's claim that the president yelled at senior Pentagon officers and had to be led away by Ms Jarrett. It seems more the thing that would happen in a bad novel than real life, but that may just be my ignorance.

I believe the appropriate term would be 'fundamentalists'.

Islam was spread by the sword. Those who deny the original of its expansion are the same people who try to sell guilt to Americans about their "original sin" aka slavery (ignoring the northern states were already free). If one has to face taint on its origin, then so should the other. However, it all goes down to the Left's hatred of Western Civ and their mantra of "one set of rules for, another set of rules for thee".

#1 Obama says that IS is not Islam. He yelled at a Pentagon briefing full of Colonels and Generals about their daring to impugn Islam by saying that IS was motivated by Moslem piety and values. He had to be led out of the room by ValJar and taken home. The briefing was canceled and the Press never said a word. But the Pentagon remembered.

ISIS is Moslem. Very Moslem. The American military LOATH Obama. It is a good thing they are honorable people who respect the Constitution too much to even think about what Obama apologises for....the military does not like ILLUSIONS. In Combat Illusions just get you killed. A soldier can't afford Illusions. Plus its a very bad idea to insult Colonels and Generals. I wouldn't recommend it.
