[ABS-CBN] Two New People's Army militants were detained following a brief firefight in Gubat, Sorsogon Saturday afternoon.Military spokesman Maj. Angelo Guzman said troops were conducting a security operation when they were fired upon by at least six militants. The soldiers were sent there after receiving a report about armed men in one of the houses in the area. The troops were fired upon as they approached the house.
Guzman said, "After five minutes, the NPAs were able to escape but two of their comrades were left and subsequently captured by the troops."
The captured militants were identified as Joseph Esperanzate, who carries the aliases Hantik and Darwin; and Noli Rangel.
Meanwhile, in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, an NPA militant, identified only by the alias Banoy, surrendered to officials of the 58th Infantry Battalion last Wednesday.
