The Chagos Islands 40 years on remain a black mark on Britain

[OurKingdon] By 1973, the entire indigenous population of the Chagos Islands was forcibly deported to Mauritius, to make way for a US military base. This month marks the fortieth anniversary of an outrage committed under wraps by the British, still fighting to prevent the return of the Chagossians.
Yes, a very dated article [April 2012], but with Diego Garcia appearing in the news from time to time, perhaps a bit of history might be instructive. A 'black mark' yes, but possibly not just on our cousins.

#1  So iff NOT-THE-US GREAT BRITAIN defaults on any major debt payment to CHINA, technically it can handover NOT-PUERTO-RICO-OR-GUAM-OR-HAWAII CHAGOS ISLAND to China in lieu if formal debt payments, THEN OF COURSE CHINA CAN PROMPTLY RIGHTEOUSLY RETURN CHANGOS/DIEGO GARCIA BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLE, right???

AS opposed, of course, to the more likely China turning DIEGO GARCIA into a former US-Brit, now PLA, Milbase for Chinese-n-Only-Chinese MilPol purposes???
