| Faryab Security Deteriorates, Villages Fall |

| [Tolo News] The Taliban turbans are reportedly making advances in northwestern Faryab province as the turbans have seized control of about 100 villages, local officials said on Tuesday. Khairullah Qarayee, a resident of Faryab and the commander of uprising group against Taliban, told TOLOnews that two important strategic military areas have been collapsed in the last two days. "Nine people who were fighting the Taliban have been maimed in the festivities while six others have been taken hostage," Qarayee said. About 10 other civilians were still missing, he added. His comments came after a politician from Faryab, Naqibullah Faiq, said in social media that at least 30 Afghan local coppers had been killed and maimed in the Faryab battle. He warned if government failed to support local forces, the whole province would likely collapse.But the military officials say they have been supporting locals that have risen against the Taliban. "So far, 73 turbans have been killed and injured since Monday's battle. The Air Force is helping the locals who are battling the Taliban," said Reza, a military front man in the North. Earlier this week, the Interior Minister Noor-ul-haq Olomi visited Faryab where he promised to not let the province's situation become like Kunduz. This year, the Taliban turbans had been significantly engaged in fighting the Afghan forces. A number of districts and scores of villages fell to the Taliban since the group began its summer offensive earlier in April. |
