[Sun Star] One militiaman was killed while a soldier was injured in a gun battle preceded by an ambush staged by the New People's Army in Compostela Valley province. The firefight took place a day after another group of NPA rebels detonated two bombs near the hangar of Dole banana plantation in the same province.Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Bunagan said the clash broke out Sunday morning in the village of Aguinaldo, Laak. He said the troops were on patrol following the reported presence of NPA militants when they were ambushed, causing the soldiers to return fire.
Bunagan said the NPA militants withdrew after a 30-minute clash. Eyewitnesses reported that some of them were injured.
