[DAWN] Former PML-Q senator Haroon Akhtar has been appointed Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Revenue.His appearance at Saturday's post-budget presser alongside Finance Minister Ishaq Dar took many people, including politicians of the ruling party, by surprise. It was like a thunderbolt for many senior PML-N leaders who were hoping to get cabinet portfolios and were yet to digest the appointment of Marvi Memon as Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). She will be overseeing distribution in the coming fiscal year of Rs104 billion set aside in the new budget for the programme.
Both Ms Marvi and Mr Akhtar were in the inner sanctum of former military ruler Gen Pervez

"There is already enough resentment in the party over the appointment of Gen Musharraf's loyalists to various positions and it will certainly increase with the induction of Mr Akhtar," one PML-N leader told Dawn.
