A powerful force of an estimated 500 ISIS fighters mounted a massive assault on Sunday night on Peshmerga frontlines near the intersection of the Hardan and Tal Afar roads. At least 30 extemists were killed in the clashes and four Peshmerga were injured. Some of the militants were from Chechnya and the rest are from Iraq and the Tal Afar area, a Peshmerga official said, adding that there were some ethnic Turkmen and Arabs. "We have also captured heavy weapons left behind and now they are in the hands of the Peshmerga, including PKC maching guns, Kalashnikov rifles and many other weapons," said the officer. Hardan town is located east of Tal Afar, it is on the main road from Shingal and Tal Afar to Syria. According to Peshmerga intelligence ISIS will continue attacking in the area because of its strategic location. | |
