| Ghat Hospital in danger of shutting down for lack of resources |

| [Libya Herald] The Ghat Hospital is suffering from a severe lack of resources and if it does not get the fuel and medical supplies it needs to keep operating, it could be forced to close down. According to hospital director Rasul Mohammed Mubarak, not only are supplies, such as medical equipment and fuel, not readily available, traffic at the hospital has dramatically increased in recent months. "Eighty-five percent of Obari residents have fled, and many of them have come to Ghat. We're serving a much larger population now," Mubarak explained. Mubarak said that the hospital's supply of medicines is sufficient at present, but that the fuel shortages have been particularly hard on the hospital. "We are not able to run our generators without fuel. Without the generators, we can't run dialysis machines and other medical equipment. We're also not able to launder bed sheets and other linens necessary to keep the conditions at the hospital sanitary," Mubark said. Meanwhile, ...back at the shouting match, Bart was wondering if fisticuffs would be appropriate at this point... the hospital is also in need of more doctors and space to meet the demand. Obari Teaching Hospital has sent some staff to Ghat, but just the same, the hospital is looking for ways to diffuse the demand on-site. "We are encouraging patients to seek treatment at local clinics whenever possible to cut down on crowding at the hospital. The problem is that many residents only trust the big hospital, even for minor issues," Mubarak said. |
