US citizen brought from Pakistan to NYC faces terror charges

and charged with conspiring to kill American soldiers, according to court papers unsealed Thursday.

A bearded Muhanad Mahmoud Al Farekh, wearing light blue prison attire, said nothing and entered no plea during a brief court appearance Thursday afternoon before a federal judge in Brooklyn. He was ordered held without bail. His attorney did not comment.

Authorities say Al Farekh conspired to support efforts to kill Americans and U.S. military members abroad.

Muhanad Mahmoud Al Farekh, a U.S. citizen accused of training with al Qaeda in Pakistain, appeared in Brooklyn federal court on charges he had conspired to provide personnel to be used by Islamist turbans in support of efforts to kill U.S. citizens and members of the U.S. military abroad.
Newsweek points out:
Muhanad Mahmoud al-Farekh was charged Thursday in the Eastern District of New York with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists. In 2007, the U.S. citizen traveled with two other men to fight U.S. forces in Pakistain. One of the men he traveled with, Ferid Imam, provided weapons and training to Al-Qaeda in Pakistain.

As a result of the case against him, Farekh was deported from Pakistain to the United States. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years.
