[DAWN] Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) on Monday grabbed credit for the killing of Lieutenant Colonel Tahir Azeem who was rubbed out a day earlier by unknown gunnies in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.

Local police said Tahir Azeem expired on the spot after sustaining multiple bullet wounds. A police official also told Dawn that Col Azeem's murder appeared to be a murder because there was no evidence that he had any personal enmity with anyone.
According to reports, Col Tahir Azeem's brothers-- Waqas and Shakil -- were also rubbed out in separate attacks in 2004 and 2005. Both Waqas and Shakil, however, had no association with the armed forces.
