No Holy Week break for Philippine terrorists
2015-03-30
There will be no letup in security operations against all "enemies of the state," particularly the Abu Sayyaf and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters as the Philippines observes Holy Week.

Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma yesterday said that both the Philippine military and the national police had been directed to secure the peace between Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday. He said, "The AFP and PNP, and even the Philippine Coast Guard, are working together in collaboration with local government units in keeping the peace during Holy Week."

AFP Chief of Staff General Gregorio Pio Catapang earlier ordered troops to press the campaign against the Abu Sayyaf and the BIFF. He directed military field commanders in Sulu and Maguindanao to pursue the two groups with no letup, but to avoid collateral damage involving civilians.

#2  Rather broad paint brush there....

Manila's objective appeared to have been splitting off the MILF from its more radical elements, like Abu Sayyaf and BIFF.

It has had some limited success. The MILF have not engaged in any major attacks against the Philippine gov't, and have gone after the other two. We'll see.
