Two bombings have killed at least 23 people and left 60 more wounded in Baghdad.In the first incident Saturday, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a restaurant in the Shi'ite neighbourhood of Jididah, killing at least 11 people and injuring 30 more. In the second incident, a suicide bomber detonated his suicide vest in a busy commercial street in Al-Shurjah, killing 12 and wounding another 30.
Saturday's attacks occur in Baghdad as the nightly curfew was set to end at midnight. Lifting the curfew would be a major change to a longstanding policy meant to curb violence in the capital.
Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi ordered the move earlier in the week, a decision his spokesman said was taken so there would "be normal life as much as possible, despite the existence of a state of war".
