Bell's V-280, which combines a combat helicopter's fuselage with tilt-rotors, would basically be a Black Hawk that can adjust its thrust to fly like a fixed-wing aircraft once it's airborne.

#5 Why not dream big and make it like a chinook with rotors in front and back. They had something like that in the latest Tom Cruise sci-fi movie and it looked pretty cool. And if you got it to work I imagine you'd have a lot of lift. And if you didn't get it to work it looks really cool on the powerpoint slides. |

#2 We simply can't have the services using 'like' aircraft. Each must have it's own unique platforms, with their own unique funding requirements, R&R, contractor, and sustainment tails. How could you possibly 'cook the books' if there were common standards btwn services which could be compared, contrasted, and held to account ? [sarc deleted after first sentence] |
