When Anne Lamott hears the word Gawd, she gets her knives | ||

![]() From TFA: All wisdom traditions have at their root three basic ideas: To take care of the poor, to cultivate a sense of presence or union with a power much greater than ourselves, and to soften the heart. In the fullness of those traditions – as opposed to the fundamentalist version of those traditions – you don’t hit back. For me as a Christian, the two main things are you’re supposed to “let go and let God,” and you’re supposed to turn the other cheek. Those two things are like my two worst realms. People are always saying, “Let go and let God …” and I just want to stab them. People say, “We just need to forgive and forget.” As if they had.

#13 At Miss Lamont's School of Forgiveness, To stick to one's guns would be witless: Her lovely tea parties Are only for smarties Who'd stab Baggers' eyes with a quickness. |

#12 "Lamont, you big dummy!" said Redd Foxx. "You're dumb as that big box of pet rocks!" "Be cool, Pop, don't worry; They'll sell in a hurry To crazy white ladies with dreadlocks." |

#11 Geeze, what a nasty, bigoted small-minded scrunt. (Remind self - avoid purchasing any of her books. Also, avoid anything to do with middle-aged white women who do their hair in those nasty-looking mini-dreads.) |

#9 "For me as a Jew, it's "God helps those who help themselves" and "The Covenant is not a suicide pact." Then, too, I didn't spend my twenties drinking instead of growing up, and I didn't waste my child's childhood venting my spleen at the imperfections of others. Perhaps it isn't Christianity that's your problem, dear." TW wins! I wanna be just like you when I grow up, dear. :-D |

#7 Like a bad episode of Whose Line is It? OK, you are a special snowflake. You are going to blame the Tea Party for everything, and your prop is this can of WD-40. |

#6 WD-40 is good for loosening fasteners and a quick lube, but I don't use it for long term lubrication due to evaporation. Right tool, right application, etc. |

#4 According to Wikipedia, only the volatile hydrocarbon evaporates, leaving the lubricating oil behind. |

#1 And then that miracle of grace [forgiveness], like a spiritual WD-40, that gets into the very stuck, grinding places inside of us. WD-40 evaporates. I wonder if she knew ? |
