Navy Fires On Suspicious Gaza Boat Returning From Sinai
2014-11-10
[IsraelTimes] An Israel Navy ship fired at a suspicious Paleostinian vessel returning to the Gazoo Strip from the Sinai Peninsula late Sunday night.

Israeli forces tracked the boat as it left the southern Gazoo Strip, the Ynet news site reported. When it returned from the Sinai laden with cargo, the navy ordered the boat to stop.

When it refused to do so, Israeli forces opened fire, striking the boat.

An Israeli naval official tasked with safeguarding Israel's maritime boundary with Gazoo told Israel Radio in October that Gazoo's shore was "one big tunnel," in reference to Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,'s numerous smuggling and attack tunnels dug under the Egyptian and Israeli borders. Dozens of such tunnels were destroyed by Israel during Operation Protective Edge during the summer.

The officer said that after the Egyptians destroyed many of the smuggling tunnels dug between Sinai and Gazoo in 2013-2014, attempts had intensified to smuggle weaponry via the sea.

While most Gazoo fishermen were not involved in terrorist activity, he stressed that terror operatives were continually using those fishermen's freedoms to smuggle weapons and plan attacks.

Under the terms of an August 26 truce agreement, which ended a deadly 50-day war between Israel and Hamas turbans, Gazoo fishermen are permitted to trawl the waters up to six nautical miles off the shore.
Update from The Times of Israel at 12:30 ET:
2 Gazans wounded, 4 missing after Israel fires on smugglers

Two Gazoo fishermen were maimed and four missing Monday after the Israeli navy fired on two boats off the coast, officials from the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-run security services said.

It was not immediately clear whether the four had been locked away
Please don't kill me!
, the officials added.
That's the official Hamas line, then. Got it.
The Israeli military confirmed that naval fire had destroyed one boat it said had been involved in smuggling, but had no information about the four fishermen reported missing.

The two maimed fishermen were pulled out of the water off the southern port of Rafah after the Israeli fire destroyed both boats, a Hamas security official said.

The Israeli military said that naval vessels had tracked a boat engaged in smuggling from nearby Egypt.

"The navy identified a fishing boat which had left the Gazoo shore and went down towards Egypt," a statement said.

"The forces followed the boat and identified it heading back towards Gazoo, fully loaded," it said, adding that Israeli warships had fired warning shots before targeting the vessel when it failed to respond.

"The smuggling attempt was foiled and the target was destroyed," it said, without indicating what the boat had been carrying.
