Two suspected New People's Army (NPA) members were killed in a clash with government forces in Kapalong town, Davao del Norte on Sunday morning. Captain Alberto Caber said soldiers, in coordination with Kapalong police, have yet to identify the two dead militants. He said the encounter happened as security forces were on patrol, and that they encountered at least 20 militants.Caber said the NPA militants first attacked the military and police, prompting them to return fire. The gunbattle lasted for about an hour. No one was hurt on the government side.
Caber said villagers tipped off the soldiers about extortion activities by the NPA.
