Recent Mexican Drug Cartel Doings
2014-10-12
A round-up of recent Breitbart articles on the subject:
Texas Drug Smugglers Tied To Witchcraft, Cartels And House Explosion

MCALLEN, Texas -- Francisco Javier "El Tampico" Maya, a member of a drug smuggling group with ties to the Gulf Cartel that operated along the Texas Border will spend close to 16 years in prison for his role in the drug trafficking saga that included Santeria rituals, drug rip-offs and bombs.

On Tuesday afternoon, Maya went before U.S. District Judge Hilda Tagle in Brownsville who sentenced him to 189 months in prison. Maya had previously been convicted in January after a two day trial of the charges of conspiracy to possess more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana and possession of more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana, court records show.

Mexican Cartel Drug Lord Arrested

MCALLEN, Texas -- Mexican Federal Police confirmed the arrest of the leader of one of Mexico's oldest narco mobs.

Vicente "El Viceroy" Carrillo Fuentes was captured Wednesday night in the northern Mexican city of Torreón, Coahuila state, in an intelligence-driven operation that was carried out without a single shot being fired, according to information released to Breitbart Texas by Mexico's Federal Police.

Carrillo Fuentes was the head of the Vicente Carrillo Fuentes Organization (VCFO), also known as the Juárez cartel. The criminal organization was made famous by Carrillo's older brother Amado, known as the "Lord of the Skies" for his fleet of Boeing 707s that he used to smuggle large loads of cocaine into the US.

Breitbart Texas Contributing Editor and border security expert, Sylvia Longmire commented regarding the arrest, "There is no question the once-dominant power of the Juárez cartel has been in steep decline for the past few years, and many attribute the decrease in the Ciudad Juárez murder rate since 2011 to that decline. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the Carrillo Fuentes Organization still wields considerable influence in the city and parts of Chihuahua state, most notably through their enforcers 'La Linea' and 'Los Linces.'"

Longmire noted the cartel also has strong relationships with local gangs, particularly with Los Aztecas (known as Barrio Azteca on the US side of the border) who were responsible for the bombing of the US Consulate in Ciudad Juárez in 2010.

Mexico Lifts Dollar Restrictions After Drug Cartels Target Us Businesses To Launder Profits

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto lifted the restrictions last month, saying the anti-money laundering measure harmed honest businesses.

Mexican Gov't Paying To Help Shield Illegal Immigrants In The U.S. From Deportation

The government of Mexico is paying to help its citizens who are living illegally in the United States avoid deportation.

According to a report from National Public Radio, the Mexican government through its 50 consulates around the United States has been helping to fund low-income undocumented Democrats to apply for President B.O.'s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA -- which shields undocumented Democrats from deportation and allows them to work in the U.S.

Mexican Gulf Cartel Boss Caught In Texas

in Texas following a large raid.

Juan Francisco Tamez Saens was arrested Thursday night in the city of Edinburg which is just 12 miles north of the border with Mexico, law enforcement sources told Breitbart Texas.

Tamez Saez, who went by the name "Comandante 103 or Comandante Panochitas," had inherited the leadership of the Gulf Cartel following the arrests of leaders Mario "Pelon" or X-20" Ramirez and Juan Manuel "Perros" Rodriguez. Both Ramiez and Rodriguez were arrested in Mexico in recent months.

In Mexico's Drug War, Kingpins Fall While Kidnappings And Fear Rise

TUCSON, Arizona -- Drug lords in Mexico have officially been put on notice: President Enrique Peña Nieto is coming for you -- even though he said he would not two years ago. Despite the fact Mexico's leader harshly criticized predecessor Felipe Calderón's militarized "kingpin strategy" of going after the country's top narcos, many of the drug war's most notorious, violent, and wealthy cartel leaders are either sitting behind bars or buried six feet under via Peña Nieto's orders -- three in the past two weeks alone.

Since his inauguration in December 2012, Mexican police or military authorities have killed or apprehended a "who's who" list of drug lords: Miguel "Z-40" Treviño Morales, Los Zetas (July 2013); Mario "X-20/El Pelon" Ramirez, Gulf cartel (August 2013); Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán, Sinaloa Federation (February 2014); Nazario "El Mas Loco" Moreno Gonzalez, Knights Templar (March 2014); Hector "El H" Beltrán Leyva, Beltrán Leyva Organization (October 2014); Vicente Carrillo Fuentes, Juárez cartel (October 2014); and Juan "El Metro 103" Saenz, Gulf cartel (October 2014).

All of these individuals were either the in-control leader of one of the larger and more powerful narco mobs or served in a "Chairman of the Board"-type capacity. The sheer number of these arrests and the importance of these men to their organizations are significant as drug war history goes.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the ultimate value of this strategy is questionable. Even after all these victories, Peña Nieto has not realized one of his top goals from when he entered office: to reduce crime and violence at the local level.

#1  Ah, news from "No Border" region of the country. A little of everything going on there: Santeria rituals, explosions, drugs and rip-offs--the usual. Not exactly a Norman Rockwell picture of American life.
