Riots In Turkey As Islamic State Renew Assault On Kurdish Town
2014-10-09
[Ynet] Renewed attack on Syrian-Kurdish town of Kobani, after US-led strikes pushed Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
back for short time; 21 dead in Turkey as Kurds rise.

Islamic State fighters launched a renewed assault on the Syrian city of Kobani on Wednesday night, and at least 21 people were killed in riots in neighboring Turkey where Kurds rose up against the government for doing nothing to protect their kin.

#4  The Kurdish areas just happen to have the oil, coal and much of the mineral resources. Wonder why the Turks keep them down? Hard to rob them if the Turks don't.

#3  Spengler pointed out some years ago that while Turkey's Turks are at a below-replacement birthrate, Turkey's Kurds' average birthrate is, as I recall, double that. And while Kobani may well be destroyed -- apparently it is not considered a strategic loss or something by our senior people -- Turkey has suddenly acquired a significant number of new Kurdish residents who may not be able to return to Syria.

Spengler argued that within two generations the Kurds may well inherit all of Turkey, or at least all of it that matters.

#2  Turks make a habit of repressing the Kurds. It may cost the a large chunk of territory eventually. I hope it does.
