| Philippines displays ancient maps to debunk China's sea claims |

| [ARABNEWS] The Philippines on Thursday put on display dozens of ancient maps which officials said showed that China's territorial claims over the South China Sea did not include a disputed shoal at the center of an acrimonious standoff. The Philippines is in dispute with China over parts of the South China Sea, including the Scarborough Shoal, an area believed to be rich in oil and natural gas as well as fisheries resources. China seized control of the shoal in June 2012 and has prevented Philippine fishermen from getting close to the rocky outcrop, a rich fishing ground. |

| #2 Its NOT enough for the PHIL, VIETNAM, + ASEAN in general to claim interests in the disputed seas - they M-U-S-T be able to able to militarily + unilaterally defend their claims from any + all comers. Unless the Bammer or successor is willing to base 1-3 "NIMITZ" - CLASS CVNS' + OTHER MAJOR OR HEAVY MIL ASSETS in the region to back them up, China is just going to be PC + all but absolutely ignore the rants-n-raves of the PHIL, VIETNAM, + ASEAN. ETC. FYI, asper News + Mil Blogs a recent survey indicates that most Chinese believe there will be a war between their country + JAPAN, IMO among other to broadly decide which country will be Asia's #1. Iff such a conflict occurs, China + [still-modernizing] PLA may initially suffer setbacks, but it will NOT stop its war wid Japan until final victory or defeat. | #1 When the insular government of the Heavenly Kingdom literally broke up Zheng He's fleet, they threw away all claims to that which laid beyond the coasts and waters. For them, the Kingdom was the center of the universe and nothing else was worthy of their attention. |
