| HPC Pushing for Taliban Prisoner Release in Kunduz |

| [Tolo News] The Kunduz province police have alleged that the High Peace Council (HPC), Afghanistan's primary actor for reconciliation efforts with the Taliban, has attempted to have a senior murderous Moslem leader released from prison, sparking outrage among local officials who have already lobbed criticisms against the central government for lenient policies on Death Eater detainees. Intense fighting between Taliban and Afghan cops has raged on in Kunduz, only a few kilometers from the placid provincial capital at times, for over a week. Local security officials have repeatedly affirmed that a former prisoner, Mawlawi Salam, who was released by order of the government, is currently leading thousands of bully boyz in their offensives throughout the province. Now, according to the Kunduz police, the HPC would see another high-profile prisoner - Qari Haleem - released, and he would likely then return to the battlefield, or so they fear. |
