[Politico] The president of Honduras on why the United States and its drug habit are to blame for the violence and kid immigrants fleeing Central America.
It is easier to export their social problems than to fix 'em.

#1  Corruption is endemic to Latin America. Corrupt officials skim off the top of anything profitable, legal and otherwise. In some Latin American countries, to expand a factory a business has to go through dozens of permit applications and fees, many of which are deliberately held up to encourage bribery. It can take ten years and thousands in bribes to build an expansion to a business or home. It's a lot like Chicago. I would like to hear what the president has to say on that topic.

That said, he has a point that our drug use is fueling the corruption and hopelessness his country faces. Gangs force farmers to grow drugs instead of food. Gangs force businesses to act as fronts, and kidnap kids to ensure cooperation.

Spare me the bullshit about legalizing drugs eliminating crime. If we made drugs legal here, the market would skyrocket and the gangs would have even tighter control.

Also please spare me the bullshit about drug use being a victimless crime. I have fed too many neighbor kids whose parents were too stoned to feed them; and Narcos pressured my friend in Colombia to grow coca instead of coffee until Uribe got tough on corruption and gangs.
