Kerry urges Kurds to save Iraq from collapse |
2014-06-24 |
![]() I was in Vietnam, you knowKerry Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State... held crisis talks with leaders of Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region on Tuesday urging them to stand with Storied Baghdad in the face of a Sunni hard boy onslaught that threatens to dismember the country. Security forces fought Sunni armed factions for control of the country's biggest oil refinery on Tuesday and turbans launched an attack on one of its largest air bases less than 100 km from the capital. More than 1,000 people, mainly civilians, have been killed in less than three weeks, the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... said on Tuesday, calling the figure "very much a minimum". The figure includes unarmed government troops machinegunned in mass graves by hard boys, as well as several reported incidents of prisoners killed in their cells by retreating government forces. Kerry flew to the Kurdish region after a day in Storied Baghdad on an emergency trip through the Middle East to rescue Iraq after a lightning advance by Sunni fighters led by an al Qaeda offshoot, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. |

#4 The headline gave me a big laugh. Isn't that like asking the Juice to save them surrounding, imploding Airbs from themselves? |

#3 I second LG. The Kurds need artillery and ground attack air support. If you want them to attack better make that self propelled artillery. |

#2 how about some advanced weaponry for the Kurds? if you want them to help, they have to be able to do it don't they |

#1 There is little incentive for the Kurds to try to keep some coalition of Sunni, Shite, and Kurds together in some sort of government in Iraq. The Baathists (secular Sunni) did not treat them well under Saddam. He gassed them with WMDs. |
