| Obama, Bergdahl and Moral Narcissism |

| In 1979, Christopher Lasch published The Culture of Narcissism warning of the normalizing of pathological narcissism in our society. Considering events since then, he was evidently on to something. Now, some 35 years later in the Obama era, with the Bergdahl incident only the latest in a parade of endless scandals, we have arrived at a full blown era of what has lately been called Moral Narcissism. Moral Narcissism is an evocative term for the almost schizophrenic divide between intentions and results now common in our culture. It doesnÂ’t matter how anything turns out as long as your intentions are good. And, just as importantly, the only determinant of those intentions, the only one who defines them, is you. |

| #2 The fact that Obama is a failure is a success for our system. In 2010, after Obamacare was rammed down the throats of unwilling citizens, the voters voted for balance in Congress to control a runaway government. Fortunately albeit clunky and slow at times, our system, by design, tends to be self-correcting. The Obama administration is loaded with moral narcissists, including, obviously, the president himself — Valerie Jarrett, Susan Rice, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton etc. The media and Hollywood are also clearly stuffed to the gills with moral narcissists. We have seen the dangers of a pathologically narcissistic leader and cloying sycophants before, some ~75-85 years ago. The cult of personality very often loses its moral rudder after awhile and slides into destruction. The throngs of adoring, dewy-eyed acolytes in Chicago back in early 2009 should have been a danger sign. Obama was reflected in many of the voters who put Obama over the top in 2008. Let's hope our system continues to self-correct as the result of open-eyed voters who have had enough of this self-aggrandizing narcissist and those who fawn over him. |

| #1 Narcissism aggravated by galloping solipsism. Solipsism is the delusion (or absurd philosophical position) that because our knowledge is personal, our personal experience is all there is. Or put differently, solipsism is “(a) the world view that the self is the only thing that can be known and verified; (b) the world view that the self is the only reality” (typical dictionary definition). Taken seriously and acted on in practice, solipsism is a form of profound mental derangement. |
