| One Police Killed, 4 Injured in Herat Blasts |

| [Tolo News] An Afghan policeman was killed and four others were maimed in twin blasts in western Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... province on Friday night, local officials said. The first blast took place at about 8 a.m. near a mosque in Islam Qala of Herat close to the Afghanistan and Iran border. Police forces responded to the first attack when the second bomb detonated killing one policeman and injuring four others, said Safiwullah, border police chief in Islam Qala. The victims have been taken to a hospital for treatments. Preliminary reports suggest it was a suicide kaboom followed by gunfire. No group including the Taliban has grabbed credit for the blasts. |
