Two suspected members of an arson unit of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a clash with soldiers in the province of Misamis Oriental.Military spokesman Lieutenant General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III said the clash took place late Monday moring in Gingoog City. He said the identities of the slain NPA militants are not known except that they were reported to be members of the NPA’s arson unit.
Cruz said the clash happened as troops were checking the reported presence of the NPA militants in the village of Balason. He said local residents reported that the NPA militants were extorting villagers and trying to get new recruits.
