Uh Oh: Russian Su -24 scores off against the American "USS Donald Cook" |
2014-04-24 |
![]() [RussianRadio] In response, Russia sent an unarmed bomber Su- 24 to fly around the U.S. destroyer. However, experts say that this plane was equipped with the latest Russian electronic warfare complex. According to this version, "Aegis" spotted from afar the approaching aircraft, and sounded alarm. Everything went normally, American radars calculated the speed of the approaching target. And suddenly all the screens went blank. "Aegis" was not working any more, and the rockets could not get target information. (Emphasis added - UP) Meanwhile, Su-24 flew over the deck of the destroyer, did battle turn and simulated missile attack on the target. Then it turned and repeated the maneuver. And did so 12 times. |

#17 According to Tom Clancy, a zorch is an overloading of a planes electronics by ramping up the output of radars. IIRC the line was "If you piss off an Aegis you can wind up having 2 headed kids." |

#16 The warship was "buzzing" Russia, so it seems a little "reciprocation" is to be expected. |

#14 "We didn't join the military to risk our lives!!" Part of this, at least, seems to be true. |

#12 LOL read on: "After the incident, the foreign media reported that "Donald Cook" was rushed into a port in Romania. There all the 27 members of the crew filed a letter of resignation. It seems that all 27 people have written that they are not going to risk their lives. This is indirectly confirmed by the Pentagon statement according to which the action demoralized the crew of the American ship." I always wondered where Baghdad Ali went. |

#10 None of those definitions match what I thought a zorch was. From what I have heard, a zorch is where the aegis burns out your systems by focusing very large quantities of electromagnetic radiation on your aircraft. |

#7 Zorch Band Zorch, who formed in 1973, were an early English totally electronic band, pioneering integrated performances of synthesizers and lightshow. Not sure it's that. |

#6 A zorch would be awkward. What is a zorch, Shipman? Some of us haven't the advantage of your various experiences. |

#2 Or maybe the Su-24 blew a fuse and *thought* the Aegis went black. Obviously, there is more to this story than we will ever learn from (spit) journalists. |
