Egypt sets sights on Hamas in widening anti-Islamist campaign |
2014-03-05 |
![]() Relations with Hamas have nosedived since the military overthrow of democratically elected president and Moslem Brüderbund member Mohammed Morsi ...the former president of Egypt. A proponent of the One Man, One Vote, One Timeprinciple, Morsi won election after the deposal of Hosni Mubarak and jumped to the conclusion it was his turn to be dictator... last July. Hamas is an offshoot of Egypt's Brotherhood, which the new government declared a terrorist organization in December. According to the News Agency that Dare Not be Named, Cairo believes "Hamas is playing a key role in the insurgency by hard boyz in the northern region of the Sinai Peninsula, which borders Hamas-ruled Gazoo and Israel." Hamas has been accused of interfering in Egyptian affairs (many of its leaders are based in Cairo, a relic of the Brotherhood's time in power) and colluding with hard boyz that have orchestrated attacks on Egyptian security forces, according to BBC. |
