| Iranian parliament holds closed meeting | |

Iranian parliament has held a closed meeting on the country's nuclear program earlier today, member of the Iranian parliament's presiding board Abdolreza Mesri said, ISNA news agency reported on Feb. 23. Mesri said Iranian MPs expressed their concern over the recent statements from U.S. officials on Iran's nuclear program.
It should be noted that earlier in February, the U.S. negotiator Wendy Sherman admitted before Congress that the United States had "not shut down" Iran's ballistic missile program. "That is indeed something that has to be addressed as part of a comprehensive agreement," Sherman stressed. Iranian officials earlier rejected U.S. calls for its ballistic missile program to be included as part of the negotiated nuclear deal. Iran and P5+1 (U.S., Russia, China, UK, France and Germany) arrived at a landmark interim deal on Iran's nuclear program in the Swiss city of Geneva on November 24, 2013. Under the deal, the six countries undertook to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period. It was also agreed that no nuclear-related sanctions will be imposed on Iran within the same timeframe. The agreement, dubbed the Geneva Joint Plan of Action, went into effect on January 20. | |
