| Tokyo - US Embassy blasts NHK exec's denial of WWII war crimes |

| From CCTV.com: The US Embassy in Tokyo has condemned charges by a top official at JapanÂ’s national broadcaster NHK. NHK Naoki Hyakuta has claimed Americans fabricated war crimes against Japan during World War Two. The embassy spokesman called the charges preposterous. He expressed hope that people in positions of responsibility in Japan would seek to avoid comments that inflame tensions in the region. Hyakuta made his claims in campaign speeches supporting a candidate for governor of Tokyo. He said the 1937 Nanjing Massacre never occurred. He said Americans staged the postwar trial of Japanese leaders to cover up their own war crimes, including the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The US Embassy's criticism follows WednesdayÂ’s condemnation by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Ministry said the international community should be alarmed by some people in Japan denying historical facts and challenging justice and human conscience. |
