| Somali Govt confirms presence of US military advisers in Mogadishu |

| MOGADISHU, Somalia -- Federal Government of Somalia for the first time spoke on the presence of US military advisers in Mogadishu on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports. The acting Defence Minister, Abdihakin Haji Mohamud Fiqi told the media that small cell of US military personnel arrived in Mogadishu in October 2013 to coordinate the fight against Al Shabaab militants with Somali Government and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces. “It is true that US military advisers are in Mogadishu and they have been in Somalia since October 2013.They only give advices to our military officials,” said Fiqi, adding that their presence is crucial to Somalia Federal Government. He stressed that US advisers are also working on plans aimed at restoring peace in the southern part of country. “The move shows US and international community’s continued support to restoring peace and stability throughout Somalia,” the caretaker defence minister noted. |
