[Bangla New Age] Two people were killed as the second day of the countrywide shutdown enforced by the opposition alliance passed off with the capital remaining almost cut off from other parts of the country. The opposition announced extension of the strike by another 12 hours that would now end at 6:00pm today, demanding cancellation of the 10th parliamentary election and in protest at the arrest and 'killing' of opposition activists. BNP vice-chairman Selima Rahman announced the fresh programme at a presser at her house in Gulshan on Tuesday evening, protesting at the arrest of the party chairperson's adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, its joint secretary general Fazlul Haque Milon and politician Nazimuddin Ahmed on the day. |
