Some 40 Bodies Recovered in C. Africa after Clashes
2013-12-27
[An Nahar] Some 40 bodies have been recovered in the Central African Republic's capital of Bangui in just one day, following festivities there, the International Committee of the Red Thingy told Agence La Belle France Presse in Geneva on Thursday.

"Around 40 bodies have been recovered for the moment, and first aid has been given to around 60 people maimed," ICRC front man David Pierre Marquet said.

The bodies were recovered since Wednesday in Bangui by the Central African branch of the Red Thingy, he said. He said another 60 or so bodies were recovered last Monday.

Marquet said the ICRC did not yet have a complete corpse count for the Central African Republic since a spasm of violence was unleashed December 5.

"We'll know more tomorrow (Friday) because there is currently a curfew and nobody is able to go out, not even emergency personnel," he said.

Amnesia Amnesty International has said at least 1,000 people died in two days of bloodshed from December 5. There have been no reliable figures for the number of dead since.
